What is the GATE?
The Gaining Access To Training and Employment (GATE), is an employment initiative designed to provide residents within Baltimore City with services that will prepare them for employment.

The services included are:

  • Employability Assessment
  • Career Readiness Workshops
  • Retention Services
  • Career Counseling
  • Career Employment Placement
  • Pre-Employment Physical
  • Career Skill Training
  • Success Follow-up Programs

How Do I Qualify to Participate in the GATE?
Persons who reside within Baltimore City.

If I Do Not Reside Within the Boundaries Can I Still Participate in the GATE?
If you do not reside within Baltimore City, you may not be eligible to participate in the GATE. However, you will be referred to another comparable career readiness program.

What Qualifies a Resident To Participate in the GATE?
If you can answer" yes" to the following requirements you are eligible to participate in the program:

  • Reside in Baltimore City
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a good attitude and ready to work
  • Willing to adhere to a personalized employability program

Is There a Charge for the GATE?
At the present time there is no charge for services at the GATE. Entry into the GATE varies according to the requirements placed by the funding entity.

How Long Does It Take to Complete the GATE?
After orientation, academic testing, and a full psych-social assessment (approximately 2 days), recommendations for placement in the GATE or with one the Gate Affiliates will be offered to the candidate. (If the candidate is placed in one of the skills training or academic courses, the completion of the training may vary). All candidates must complete a ten (10) day job/career readiness workshop.

What Types of Career Employment Positions are Available?
There are a variety of career employment positions available based on the interest, educational and occupational skills level of each participant. Career areas include but are not limited to:

  • Construction
  • Environmental
  • Services
  • Administrative
  • Support
  • Management
  • Security
  • Food Service
  • Healthcare
  • Systems Information
  • Warehouse
  • Secretaries
  • Counselors
  • Customer Service

Are Training Opportunities Available?
Each candidate is encouraged to complete the following skills training:

  • Basic introduction to Computer Skills
  • Internet usage

A variety of occupational skills training programs are also available to interested applicants. The training options include but are not limited to:

  • Office Automation
  • Building Trades
  • Nursing Assistants
  • Computer Skills
  • Front Desk Dental
